Okay. I've finally published my site (kind of) and the "Picture Window Pro
USM filter vs. Fred Miranda PS IS action" test is ready for view (sort of).
I must be an idiot because I was unable to publish using the Front Page
automatic publish function. I had to ask my wife to go in there on her
computer and see what was up. she got no further than me and so had to
manually upload the pages to my site and then go in there and rewrite the
links for everything.
Like I said, I must be an idiot but my wife is definitely not, plus she
just got through successfully publishing a site (that Rabbit Haven I
mentioned the other day) using Front Page and still couldn't get mine to work.
What I had worked perfectly on my computer (in preview . . . sort of . . .
MS is so dense as to not tell you the browser to use and of course it
didn't default to that view so at first I couldn't get any of the links to
function in the view I was afforded in FP), showed all the correct logical
links in both navigation and HTML links views, but like I said it just
wouldn't publish. As soon as I input my domain and user information plus
the password immediately I was taken back to the first info screen (domain
address), and when I looked at the "information" for this glitch provided
by MS FP it was totally useless, with suggestions such as "maybe the server
isn't working today" and "try fiddling with the monitor's vertical-hold
button" and like that.
Anyone else ever have a problem like this?
Finally, on the USM tests page at my site, while tall the information is
there the text doesn't line up correctly with the images. I've checked and
double-checked this in FP before trying to publish and I can assure you I
took the pains to get it right using "Preview" before finally saving
everything. Doesn't work correctly in my browser, though.
Sorry about that.
Frankly I'm a bit pissed (because of my frustration of putting in so much
work--well, about seven hours total but for me that's a long time to do
something of this nature) and while I _am_ an idiot at certain things I've
got to tell you that 99.99% of _all_ my frustration over the years with
software has come _only_ when I use Microsoft product. Now why do you
suppose that is? "Do I rely on too small of a sample?
Anyway, here's my web's address: www.tristanjohn.com
Any feedback would be taken for what it's worth and appreciated. I've a
thick skin and moreover warmly welcome any kind of intelligent critical
feedback. What I don't need are "kind remarks." That never helped anyone to
make anything better.
And you don't have to give feedback here. There's a crude "feedback" page
on the site that I suppose is functional (haven't tried that yet), plus I
mean to install a bulletin board (Earthlink offers seral) only the one I've
chosen has this absolutely hideous yellow wallpaper and until I can how to
change that to my normal web background color I think I'll pass.
Anyone know of decent BB software to be had? (Hands-on experience only,
please.)
