This was an old apocrophal saying of the 'classic photojournalist'...
loosely paraphrased:
"Never mind what equipment is best... f8 and -be there-!'
The intention is that you have to be present and aware and get the image,
then you can worry about the 'best lens/body/brand/film/etc' that you should
use... Still probably good advice. When I was playing photojournalist I used
to just walk in, take one or two insurance shots quick, then ask if it was
alright to take pictures. Somewhere I have a couple of pictures I got in the
casino in Reno that way... The security guys came up and said "No Pictures!"
and I said OK as I wound on my film...
