I'd like to mention a few of my own observations about the focussing screens.
The Beattie was indeed bright, but showed vignetting with the 18/3.5 and 16/3.5
lenses as well as the 24 shift when shifted.
The 2-4 exhibited none of these problems, but I do find it more difficult to
focus fast primes such as the 28/2, 50/1.2 and 85/2. In this regard, the 1-4
(not 1-4n) is much better as the central matte area is bigger and seems
"sharper" to me.
The 2-13 is great for slow zooms, and even for the fast primes as one can
verify focus with the microprism a bit easier.
That said, I usually keep the 2-4 in the -4Ti for use with the 18/3.5, 24 shift
50/3.5 and 135/4.5 which is the basic walk around kit for me. If I know that I
will be using fast primes, I may opt for the 2-13, but prefer the 1-4 even in
indoor and in dark conditions.
My recomendation is to get the 1-4 or 1-10 first, and then move to a 2-4 or
2-13 depending on your use. even though the 2-13 is brighter, it does get a
bit dark in the microprism with the slower lenses.
I hope this helps!
