Naaaaaaaaa. Vibration and camera movement is of great interest to me
because it is one of the main problems I deal with in long telephoto work. I
do think there are so many variables it would be difficult to do a set of
meaningful tests to quantify things in an effective way. The vibration
susceptibility for different shutter speeds could be studied for stationary
objects with a very limited number of equipment layouts to see if there is a
relationship. As some pointed out, every setup is different and the number
of potential tests is huge. I shoot from vehicles frequently. My little Jeep
is quite stable but my huge van is terrible and it weighs over twice as
much. The van is so tall that it catches a lot of wind and moves way too
much. Besides that, my wife squirms too much and won't sit still. She won't
ride in the Jeep so that makes it more stable. The comments about ground or
platform movement were a little facetious but that can also be a real
problem sometimes. I would wager that list members that do a lot of
astronomical photography work hard to get their telescope tripods solidly
mounted. My experience is very limited here but if my telescope is mounted
on my wood deck I can see much more vibration than when it's on good old
terra firma. That's what I bought the vibration isolation pads for but
haven't played with them yet. Some terra firma is also a lot more "firma"
than others. The ground next to a white water rapid, for instance, can show
some movement. Right now I can't find either the deck or terra firma as they
are deeply buried in creamy white powder snow.

A not so subtle ploy to get us at least back on topics photographic, if
not strictly OM. :-)
