You know, I think you're right!
Here are pictures of the lens, and it's definitely a "filtermatic". Inside the
lens, there is a 22.5mm "normal" filter, just as you mention.

Well, in any case, the lens is in great shape. It even came with the metal
ring that fits over the petal hood to allow you to mount a lens cap.
