When CD players took off, "they" started advertising loudspeakers as
"digital ready" ooooh.

mean. ;-) Digital has become a buzzword. It's like when you buy a little set
of earbud headphones "Designed for Digital!" Sh-yeah right. But in this
case regarding lenses, I don't think so it's sales and promotion BS. This is
a highly competitive industry. Almost as competitive as the 600cc sportbike
industry, but not quite (few industries are). The mfrs. understand that it
is possible to design a lens to be more optimally configured to work with
the image sensor in a camera. This was the guiding principle behind the
excellent fixed lens E-10 and E-20's, which were excellent cameras when they
were released and still are. Mike Veglia still uses his...primarily just in
the pits, though; he loves that C*n*n 70-200/2.8L too much "in the field",
as it were (can't say I blame him!) ;-)

their digital cameras only; just as Oly has done. The little lens that comes
with the Digital Rebel a"kit" is intended strictly for digital; won't work
on a film body (the image circle is too small). It's only a $100 lens, but
apparently is quite a good one. While I love my old Oly equipment, the
bottom line for me is that cameras and lenses are getting better and better
all the time.
