Although somewhat limited, the older or first version had some built-in
filters just as the 16mm Zuiko does. So the partial solution is to buy the
first
edition. I face the same problem with the 24-48mm Tamron zoom. I'm not sure
it would work, however if I could find another of the dedicated lens caps for
this lens, I thought a way could be discovered to marry a Cokin adapter to the
lens cap which had the front cut of it and then I could alter the filter
holder so it would be narrow enough to not vignette. So there is an idea which
you
may be able to adapt to your 17mm. I don't know if it will work, however the
discussion of a possible solution to an OM problem is certainly refreshing.
