Worked a treat - I was using a paper clip but it was the position of the
latch I didn't know so was fumbling blindly about...and not succeeding.

With eyepiece towards you, insert a dental hook all the way in through
the hole. Turn so hook is pointing towards 10-11 o'clock position, pull
hook up. If you catch the back latch. back should open (as long as you
haven't reglued leather) ;-)
