Wanna bet?
We in Oz have to make a distinction between large 'L' Liberal meaning
the Liberal Party who are the equivalent of the British Conservatives
and not of the British Liberals who are what we call small 'L'
liberal and who are represented here by the Australian Democrats
based on the liberal social principles of a political philosopher
like J.S. Mill who the Americans would call libertarian as they think
liberal is left-wing which is more the province of the Labor Party
anywhere else and certainly not an insult anywhere else. Got that?
There'll be a test next week.
Now you wonder why we shouldn't talk politics? Because we would have
no idea what we're saying to each other. To me a Berkeley Liberal is
a rational Tory - an oxymoron if EVER I heard one.

(In Oz, where the Liberal Party IS the right wing party)....
Can't be more convoluted than Canadian parties. I'll give you a synopsis
since I am an unbiased observer from a foreign country ;>) Let's see,
The Liberals aren't liberal, at least not in BC. The Alliance wasn't
allied until this week and now they are just confused. The Progressives
are about the opposite of progressive, even more so if they ally with
the Alliance. That leaves the NDP, definitely not "new" anything.
Anyone hear from them lately?
