That is a recipe for disaster, never do that, especially if your are active
outside. The best rule is no sudden changes in temperature. Batteries
are the worst in cold weather. Next in P&S's is the lens extension.
And yes, plastic bag it before bringing it into moist warmer air. however
if it is really dry, just leave the camera off and let it re-adjust slowly, and
give it time to dry.
I have the C5050 and have had it out in the cold without much problem,
but it is the same as with any camera in cold conditions. I recommend
getting the CLA-1 extension if you get the 5050 or 5060, it will help
protect the lens when extended, and help keep the snow out of the
lens mechanism.
