You might like to try "Perfect Exposure" by Roger Hicks. It is
technical (and about technique from the taking through developing and
printing), but it also contains a fair amount of polemic. As an
example of the polemic: " you would have to be brave, or stupid, to use
Velvia in anything other than a studio..." (a paraphrase from memory).
It is both educational and interesting.
