Presumably when the camera writes to the card, there is some kind of file
system in use. I wonder, could the cards become
fragmented with use, in the same way that PC hard disks can do, leading to
closwer disk[card] access times? Steven mentioned that
the cards were in regular use on Can*n cameras. Alternatively, can the E-1
write to cards it has formatted itself faster than it
can write to cards formatted 'elsewhere'?
