I'm bailing out and I've marked this as "off-topic".
I don't have the money for a digital body but I'm transitioning to EOS so I can
take advantage of the flash automation now and begin
collecting EOS lenses. When I have the money, my second body will be a digital
Rebel I guess.
In the OM mount, I'm keeping the blindingly sharp Sigma 24/2.8, Kiron 28/2, miJ
(and extension tubes), (a hole where the Series1 90
used to be), then fast and sharp Tamron 135 f/2.5, then a slow but sharp Kiron
f4/80-200. I haven't figured a portrait lens but I
guess it'll be a Canon 85/1.8 EF.
In place of the OM body, extra 50mm f/1.8, and loud winder, I'm getting an 8
year old Elan II with a 50mm f/1.8 II. It will do a
primitive fill flash with the built-in, & has a very quiet winder. Cost for
body, blindingly sharp 50 (Photodo), manual, and
shoulder bag: $200.00. The same day someone else paid 20% more for the same
thing. Low-light focussing is supposedly better on
this Elan II better than the newer Elan 7, according to users on the web, and
that's important to me.
In place of the T32, wide panel diffuser, and Zoom Adapter, I got a flash
dedicated to the Elan II called 380EX. It cost me $107,
used, without a manual. (Manual: $7, new from Canon.)
Like the T32, it has a guide number of about 104 (feet, at ISO 100) and covers
a wide angle lens. (Without a diffuser, T32 covers
28mm, 380EX covers 24mm.) The real story is the flash automation E-TTL which
is two generations newer (as far as I can tell) than
the OTF TTL on my former OM-2. The EF lens tells the camera its focal length
and the camera adjusts the flash head to cover 50mm.
If I had a genuine Canon zoom, as I zoom, the flash zooms along with it.
In place of the Shipman book, I eventually found a Magic Lantern book ($30, I
overpaid). Kinko's disassembled it, drilled the
pages, & put them into a spiral binding so it lies flat when open. They also
put tough clear plastic covers on it and drilled 15
extra sheets of paper so I can add my own notes (anywhere) and build the Index
the authors forgot. Charge: only $6 for all of this.
I haven't figured out the OM lens-to-EOS mount thing yet but I have an EOS
t-mount and a donor 2x extender. I'm gonna go to the
store for model railroading and ask about a machine shop that can do custom
work like this. If not, I'll go back to the guy who
modified the counterweight for my Rega tonearm.
I've been reading the Magic Lantern book but so far none of this stuff is here.
BTW, my car broke down so I didn't ship from the
Post Office today.
All the best,
Lama
