As far as I can tell these people have always existed. They just surface in
quantity during great technological change in a field. You see it in the guy
who buys a bunch of fancy power tools and thinks he's a cabinet maker, or the
women who thinks the latest stove, crockpot or whatever will make her an
instant chef. It's the same phenomena that makes a person belive they've
become a super driver because of the new SUV they have. Since at times one of
these individuals will produce results on a par with some of the poorer
examples, they fail to see the craftsman's skill are much more than the basic
ability to manipulate his/hers tools. The fortunate part is they, being
without vision or the desire to learn the basics, will go bother someone else
as soon as the next fad comes along.
