I got a chance to try a friend's new Digital Reb*l last night while shooting
some jazz acts. Now he and I both are brand new to this camera, but I
decided that I am happy to be a retro-grouch. The thing felt like crap in
my hands, the vf was tiny and dark (I wear glasses!) and, although I am sure
that this is user error, he couldn't get enough stop in these clubs.
I was using an M2 and a 90mm 3.5, spot-meter and HP5 pushed 2/3rd stops and
getting 3.5 at 30. And even more speed on the 50mm 1.5 (duh!). The only
reason I didn't take the OMs was I though the shutter noise would be a
distraction. I won't make the same mistake next time! I couldn't talk to my
friend without yelling. Don't people just shut up and listen any more??
