OK Peoples,
You are wrong about the "yellow" beers in general...
Chris, I stock up Grolsh too, along with Beck's, St Poly Girl and Urquell
Pilsner, but by no means I think they are beers to savour...but if you lived
here for an extended period of time, you would have thought they are taken
directly from the heavens and brought to the Earth for your enjoyment. I
really miss Zagorka, a Bulgarian beer from the late 1800's that has more medals
from international fairs than the American Olympic Team. I really hope that in
the past 12 years I have not been there they did not take the American model as
they did in a lot of other aspects and this is why are at the point where they
are now.
What makes the king of beers unique? I would try to explain it, but it is
difficult and you know about my difficulties with English, so beer with me...
It is in the taste, the American beers taste like sparkling (forget about the
watered down stuff now) water when you drink it and the beer taste as we know
it is just an aftertaste. That is usually in the form of bad film in your
mouth that is left after you already swallowed it. Samuel Adams is one of the
worst offenders as I consider it even worse than Bud Light which is the worst
beer ever, even worse than eating KK's...
In the 90's the microbreweries here got extremely popular, except for the fact
that they produced beer that tastes like sparkling water and leaves somewhat
better film in your mouth as an aftertaste, still pretty useless. Their
beers were "heavier", in the sense they left a heavier film, that's all...they
still tasted like plain sparkling water, but since the film was heavier, it
gave the illusion that you drink the real thing
I give a credit to Budweiser for not doing exactly that. You have the taste
while you drink and no bad film in your mouth afterwards.
Chris, I still think that you should try more "yellow" beers, but were right
that it is not anything that you would drink when the temperature is less than
28C. Still, if you find the regular strenght not over the counter stuff...:) I
think you might like it.
I call the "yellow" beers food beers, we drink the stuff you are accustomed in
the bar (or pub), but some of them are so good that you can drink them when you
go to the bar.
Earl,
I can tell you numerous stories like that, they even put ice in their
wine...State of Mizery was too much of a cultural shock for me and as you
probably know by now I just do not like it. I do not have any idea how my wife
grew up in this environment...and turn out to be what she is.
Ciao
Boris
