Well, first, it's not English; it's Americanish. And I hesitate
to do this. But I have spent the best years of my life overcoming
hesitation, sometimes to my profound regret, so here goes.
It all started during World War II in the U.S. Army with SNAFU,
which meant "situation normal, all f***ed up."
(You may substitute for *** the letters "oul" or "uck," depending
upon your particular sensibilities.)
This was quickly followed by many permutations, including:
FUBAR: F***ed up beyond all recognition
FUBB: F***ed up beyond belief
FUBIO: F*** you, Bub, it's over
FUBISO: F*** you, buddy, I'm shipping out
And it goes on and on.
IMHO and YMMV, of course, mean "in my humble opinion" and "your
mileage may vary," which you probably already knew anyway.
Walt, hiding out for the rest of the day.
