PacNW fills the requirements except the low-cost part. However there are
still places farther from the metro areas that are reasonable. Another
option is short term rental of your place when you're not there. The
demand is strong in the more expensive and desirable areas. More cost
but more return.
1. Must be in the Lower-48 states (USA only). OK
2. Must be within reasonable driving distance (hour or so) of a
decent medical/business community. (gotta get your teeth
cleaned once in a while). Check
3. No corn fields. Nothing that you'd call a corn field
4. Close to hiking/fishing/canoeing. Great!
5. Close to really good photographic opportunities. No problem
6. Low property tax. Depends, out of town
7. Prefer mountains or major body of water. Both in abundance
8. Prefer reasonable distance from Interstate Highway. Easy
9. Low-crime. Again, out of town
