Oops; my bad; I didn't note it is an f/2 lens not an f/2.8 as I assumed.
It might well be the case that a new front element is available for the f/2. I
have one that I bought about 2 years ago and it had just (3 weeks before)
had the front element replaced for a minor scratch. That is something worth
searching for.
I imagine a good technician can fix the aperture ring problem.
