By all means, check out your local "mom and pop" store. Just yesterday; a 55mm cap (perfect), a hood for my 35-70 f4 and a perfect metal slip-on for my 50 1.4. Ten bucks! And he was glad to get rid of them. Same old story, buy elsewhere, sell on iBid.
