That's what I have on my Benbo #1 (aka Bogen 3275). Coupled with an OM focusing 
rail, it's a wonderful macro positioning package. Plus I like its 
quick-release, and have it on everything else I own -- even a Kodak Carosel 
slide projector!

Even then, a shift with an extension tube is an interesting macro experience, 
beyond the three-axis control of the gearhead. It's more like "flying over" a 
scene, rather than "panning around" the scene.

For example, if you are parallel to a surface, adjusting the gearhead means 
re-focusing, whereas shifting the lens does not.
