Hi all:
In addition to Walt's observation, my recent reading of the list has
dismayed me. For those of you who don't know, I'm one of the original
members of this list... in fact I was a member long before it was hosted
on the current server. Over the years we have had lots of
disagreements, some small, some large. Some members have quit the list
because of this, and unfortunately, they were very productive, helpful
people.
I no longer read the list on a regular basis. Why? Because when I quit
reading the list regularly several years ago, only about 450f the
traffic had anything to do with OM SLR Film Cameras. I was hoping when
I started reading the list again recently that things would have
improved. Sadly, this is not the case. From what I can see now, less
than 100f the messages directly relate to the OM System.
This list is not about the E-series, or anything else. I know we all
like to discuss ideas here regarding photography with our net friends.
However, in my opinion this has gotten out of hand to the point that
this list is only marginally useful for OM users.
With that said, my vote doesn't count any more than anyone else's on the
list, but here is what I suggest. Shawn, could we start a second list
for off-topic discussion? This would improve the signal to noise ratio
of this list, while still allowing "free discussion" on a separate list.
To put it another way, the first thing I used to do when someone asked
me an OM question I couldn't answer was suggest they join the list ask
there. Now I'm rethinking that strategy. I'm very reluctant to submit
anyone just learning about the OM system to this list, because, more
and more, this list has evolved to have nothing whatsoever to do with
its purported area of coverage. And in the end, that is a big shame.
Respectfully submitted for your consideration,
--Lee
