Today's Boston Globe has a sales flyer from CompUSA offering an Argus 5
MP with Ricoh 8-24mm f/3.4-3.6 zoom for (after various rebates) $279.
Watching the prices of DC's over the past year; it used to be that a
good rule of thumb was $100 per megapixel + $100 for a 3X optical zoom.
In the past 4-6 months the rule of thumb has changed to $100 per
megapixel including the 3X optical zoom.
By that rule the Argus ought to be $500 minus some discount for "Argus
quality" vs the bigger boys. Indeed, the "regular price" is shown as
$400 but the selling price is $279. Regardless whether it's Argus (hey,
that rhymes) this is bound to put some major downward price presssure on
"the other guys".
