It's a great all-in-one lens indeed. I plan to take it, mounted on an
OM4, and a 21/3.5 on our September holidays (provided our son gets into
the college of his choice so that we don't have to spend the Autumn
helping him look for alternative occupations).
For street/snapshot photography I plan to take a Contax G2 and perhaps
my Bronica RF645.

Good evening Dan,
Most of my pictures are taken of scenes where I want everything in
sharp focus. Even with fast lenses I normally stop down. I can hand
hold the 50-250/5 while using Velvia 50 during daylight at all but the
longest focal lenghts. Even then if I brace myself against a nearby
object I can hand hold it. I actually carry the 50-250 with me daily
at lunch time when I take a 15 minute walk down the street from my
work to get lunch. I've taken quite a few shots of some flood control
work being done on the nearby stream. The 50-250, a 35-xx zoom, and
the 24mm shift make a great small kit to walk around with.
I also often use the lens when I go up to San Francisco. For quick
snap shots while standing in the middle of the street I sometimes
leave the tripod legs close together forming a bipod.
Most of what I take pictures of doesn't move very fast. Except at
lunch time, I usually carry a tripod. I don't consider myself very
steady, others, almost certainly yourself, could hand hold it better
than I can. I find the balance of the camera with that lens to be very
good.
