Hi all,
I want to thank you all for the helpful comments and advice re putting images
on CDROMs. And the comments on that image (it was largely luck to find
such a malnourished fern <hence the colour> and in such excellent lighting
with little wind. But I still had to crouch over it for about 30 minutes to get
2
exposures) - I like it too.
Regarding the quality and pixelation of the image.
The print (I agree is a little small) is a good copy of the slide. I scanned at
400 ppi. The bmp image from that scan reproduces (on my screen) with a
sharpness that I would be happy to see on the CDROM.
(NOTE when I tried uploading it to my site this BMP image utterly refused to
upload properly despite several attempts. The top half came out black, and
the colours of the bottom half were absolutely wrong. So I had to make a hi-
res jpeg and use that instead. It is > 500kb - if anybody wants to see it I can
try e-mailing it )
The Konica - printed version on the Avery label has nasty and excessive
pixelation. OK if you hold the CDROM at arms' length; but anybody who
wants to examine the image closely will be disappointed - and it looks cheap.
And actually, money-wise it's not cheap to produce.
NZ dollars - the Avery label pages are $0.65 each - 2 labels per page. The
printing costs about $3.50 per page, and they charge $8.50 for computer
time.
So 4 trial labels cost me $16.80 NZ or $9.80 USD.
I have food for thought and action there.
Sincerely,
Brian
