"Fiestaware" (a brand name, I believe) pottery also used uranium-bearing
glazes (esp. in red colors, I understand) for many years. A quick check
for uranium-bearing glass or pottery is to place them under black (UV)
light, where they will fluoresce strongly. Then check via a Geiger counter
to confirm.
Yep. Saw some orange-red Fiestaware at a display at Los Alamos last
November, where they allowed you to pass a Geiger counter over the plate
and watch the counter go nuts (relatively speaking -- the radiation was
still low). Interesting. And the colour was *really* striking! -- little
wonder it would flouresce under the proper conditions.
