Once had a Kowa 6 - reasonable beast with fair lenses if you can find them.
It does not have an interchangeable back but the later Kowa 66 does.
It's a Japanese Hassleblad copy - usually found with a waist level
finder. However, prism finders were made too. The usual approach was
to make a removeable prism finder with a meter built in to it to
provide TTL metering.
Given the rarity of additional lenses and accessories, I'd avoid it
unless it's really cheap (below $150 with a standard finder and 80mm
- a bit more with a prism - a lot more with a wide lens).
There's a lot of MF gear available fairly cheap at present as wedding
photogs dump it in favour of digital - I'd look for Bronica myself in
MF SLR. 6x6 or 645. You get access to lots of bits on ebay, good
lenses, swappable backs and heads and they're reasonably reliable
(unlike the Russian Kievs for example).
MF macro is a whole other problem. No idea, me.
Andrew
I have been toying with the idea of getting a Kowa 6 to see what MF
is like. I like to do macro work and it occurred to me that it light
be difficult to use a spot meter while trying to also do macro work.
The Kowas and I suppose other older MF cameras di not come with
meters built in. Instead you got a viewfinder with a meter in it.
Does anyone have experience with this?
Thanks
