There was a Concorde landing at Tampa International Airport in the late
80's. I went out to Picnic Island so I'd be under its approach and we
laid around on the beach waiting for it to fly in. Quite a sight. Quite
a sound, too. ;-)
It's the only time I ever saw one in the air. I've seen them sitting on
a runway before in New York, but that's about it.

All this talk about the pending demise of the Concordes reminded me of
the time, in the early 80's, that a BA and an AF Concorde made a
simultaneous landing on parallel runways at the Orlando, Florida
airport. They were part of the events celebrating the opening of
Disney's Epcot Center. Supposedly there had never before been a
simultaneous landing by this plane. The Customs agent on duty allowed
me and my co-workers out on the tarmac so we could get a better view.
The sight of those planes coming in was something to behold. Seeing
those distinctive shapes I couldn't help but thinking if any plane was
designed to truly fly, this/these were it. Somewhere in my archives
I've got photos of the landing and, I think, the simultaneous
departure a day or two later. I haven't seen the Concorde since and
am a bit saddened to see them go out of service.
