Yes, that is all (the listing, your supposition and esif) quite correct -
mine definitely had no battery holder when it was supplied new, and still
doesn't have one, and will never have one. They should add the same line to
their 250/2 ;isting - they don't have 'em either (so I am told).

Was just looking at one of these that Olympus America is hawking on our
favorite auction site. One of the lines in the description says 'battery
holder not included' Someone inform me here. I don't understand... a
battery holder for this item??
I even poked around the Esif and the description there makes no mention of a
battery holder.
