I'm with you Adam.
My travel kit is the 50-250 and 21/3.5 with my OM4. I have a
(homemade) bean bag, but I normally use a CamCane. Gary Edwards, when
he returns to the List from his holidays over here, can attest to the
CamCane's usefulness. It's probably not man enough for his huge Tamron
400/4, but it is just the job for my smaller lenses.

The thing that's sort of subliminally kept me away from these is the

heard
speculation here that the 2 designs may be related.
I've had the zuiko 50-250 for a few years and have never had problems

bad bokeh.
I think the bad rep is probably due to f5 being pretty slow for the
shorter
end - DoF is never
going to drop off quickly until you get above 150mm at least. Excellent
sharpness throughout
the range is its strength; lack of close-focus ability and tripod
mount are
the weaknesses.
Great travel lens though - when going light I take a 28 f2.8 and the
50-250
with a 4ti and a
beanbag. Pretty versatile for the weight! With the 4ti attached its
also
about the most powerful
metering tool you could ever want.
