Over-simplified answer to an over-broad question:
If it's in public, fire away. No restrictions, unless you plan to
use the photos for commercial purposes. Then you'll need a
release.
In private, you're on your own. As that croc-wrestling weirdo
often says, "Danger! Danger!" Keep it among friends. Don't
disseminate anything that might embarrass anyone or "subject them
to public ridicule." (That's legal-speak, and that's where the
lawyers come in and you start selling your gear.)
