You could also leave the lens cap on - set the body to manual at highest
speed and smallest aperture, attach a motor drive in full auto mode and
press the shutter - IF the motor drive stops after 6.something seconds
(and starts rewinding on the newer bodies) you can be pretty confident
you had your film in ok - and as you left the cap on, you can even
re-use it ;-)
