So..
Off I go to the Olympus factory here in Taiwan. First, I went to lunch
with my gf today and had the worst food I've ever had in my life.
Then I go to the Olympus factory..::
They told me, whatever it was I used to clean the screen the first time,
had some alcohol in it, and so the screen is ruined. They tell me that
they don't have anymore, Japan no longer makes them and doesn't have
anymore either..
So on the shelf, is a: Om1, Om10,Om20,Om30,Om40.
So I'm like... An OM1!! So I asked if I can put a deposit, swap screens
with them, and purchase another one for them. NO. They refused. So I
said, who makes the decisions? "the boss". So I had them call "the
boss", who said "NO WAY IN HELL!"
They are like, sucks to be you..
So they point me to another store that might have it, the oldest camera
store on "Camera Row". On my way there, I ask about 15 stores. They
all looked with interest, as most have never seen an Olympus..
So I finally get to the store, and having gone 0 and 15, I didn't really
expect anything. So I ask if they have Olympus focus screens..
YES!! They have 3!!
Excited with anticipation: They bring all 3 out.
The first box was marked "1-2"
The second box was marked "1-3"
The third box was marked "1-7"
I open the first box, and there was a little marker with "1-9" written
on it. :-( It was a 1-9 in a 1-2 box.. (SOUND FAMILIAR DAN?)
I open the second box, and there was a little market with "1-9" written
on it also. :-( A 1-9 in a 1-3 box..
So I opened up the 1-7.. and low and behold... It was a 1-7.. :-(
There was a scratch on it, but I bought a 1-7. Not really compatible,
but at least I can look through it. The meter will be off, but I don't
trust the meter all that much anyways; I use it for a general guide. It
is VERY VERY BRIGHT. Looks to me almost 1 1/2 stops brighter than my
1-3 before I screwed it up..
I get some "tunnel" effect from it. I don't care all that much, if I
can use it to focus and take a picture with it, that's fine..
I'm thinking about ordering a 1-4 from KEH now..
Life sucks.. I'm sure my camera will be stolen the first day I get to
Thailand... With the way my luck is going these days..
On the even worse note; my unix server, I don't know what I installed on
it, but it overrode the default language and now it's in German as a
default. I would love to change it back, but I don't know what got
changed and I don't read german
I'm expecting a brick to fall on my head when I walk out my door..
