Yep, looks like you would need a new aperture ring, and both new and old
versions are no longer listed by Olympus (nor do I have any!). On the older
type, the knurled ring with the numbers is a separate part from the "tube"
behind it, but that version hasn't been available for many, many years.
Sounds like buffing and treating or painting or whatever is your only bet.
FWIW, I've used jeweler's rouge on a buffing wheel in a Dremel to polish out
a variety of scars over the years.
