No dillemma :) The answer is a sufficiently large plastic bag with a
hole for the lens, some adhesive tape, UV filter for the lens and
a pile of silica gel bags in the tight camera bag in the car/hotel.
Actually, the two only things I would be afraid of are sand and sea
water. Hence, the plastic bag to protect against splashes of sea
water. If I am in a desert trapped in a sand-storm, I'd probably have
different concirns than taking pictures. If it's just a desert with
moderate wind, then I trust that the plastic bag will shield for the
worst.
Of course, I'd rather be stuck in a dessert, preferably without a
camera but with a large spoon instead...ummmm...dessert :)
