Took me a while to work through the lists messages from the last 4 days ;-)
Basically, I'm going to have 3 operational OM-3's (non Ti) for all my
photo needs (maxed out packing is 2x Color Slide film (Kodachrome 64 and
Ekta 400) and t-max 100 for B&W - I don't shoot color negs.). For flash
stuff it's a 4-Ti, the macro and F280 setup is a 3-Ti and the car camera
is a 2-SP fittet with a 35-70/4 and a couple of filters and a close up
lens. One or two OM-3's as donors are in the planning and currently
working at completing my fast primes collection.
Now on to the erratic OM-3. This one has a sticky f-stop lever (the one
inside the lens mount that tells the meter what f-stop you have
selected) and thus gives erratic meter reading. That lever is spring
loaded to return to the biggest f-stop number (smallest aperture) and
when you work the f-stop ring on a lens to open up the aperture, you
push against that spring tension. When you then close the lens down
again, the lever sticks at the largest aperture setting and gives you
wrong metering information. Not an issue with TTL, but on a 3... go figure !
In the next days, I'll probably work my way through the issue by
examining the exploded parts diagram - just would feel more comfy with a
manual at hand - that's all.
Best regards,
Jan

They do have such a thing, at least in English, but I don't know if they are
still available from Oly/US. I don't know how much good it will do, though
-- like most Oly service manuals, it's long on standards and operation,
short on practical solutions.
What do you mean when you say one of your 3's is behaving erratically? And
when you say you want to "standardize" your bodies, what is your goal?

Hello fellow Zuiks,
just rang off with Olypmus Europe - Seems they are not selling any
Service Manuals within Germany ;-( Bummer....
Has anyone successfully obtained an OM-3 (Non Ti) Service Manual from
Olympus (USA / JAPAN / wherever) that was moreover _useful_ ?
What tools (apaprt from the Screwdrivers / Tweezers / Glue / Cleaners)
would be recommended ?
Background:
I have chosen to standardize on OM-3 Bodies and have acually obtained a
couple in the last weeks. I sent one off to Olympus in Hamburg and
expected turnaround is 6-8 Weks (unacceptable imho)
With time to spare on my steady hands, I figured I'd try myself at
fixing one of the erratically behaving bodies myself.
Any thoughts - tips - hints would be greatly appreciated - just like all
the wonderful input on reconditioning / buying a used Motordrive 2 -
Thanks for that one once more.
Kind regards,
Jan Sturm
