Yeah, that bit I understood -- I guess the trick is that until you expose
the film, the image that might be there eventually has a lot longer before
becoming apparent (and is a lot less well-defined), whereas once it's
exposed, the image has less time to turn into something real (and a lot
fewer options as to what it'll be, barring misfortune during development..)
