Garth, I know it well and get the catalogue. Unfortunately it's a little
hard to get to Vancouver from here even though I can see the taller
buildings. And I don't think there is an MEC store in Victoria. And with
the US Peso headed south we canceled our planned trip to Van. Island

Mad Cow doesn't even slow it down.
Far as I can tell, the Loonie doesn't sneeze or bite and tastes awful, so
the above three problems don't seem to affect it. ;-)
Seriously, even with the Loonie appreciating in value against the U.S.
buck, MEC's still good value -- if the prices at the REI Store in Seattle
were anything to go by, that is. And you can order online, too!:

Shipped right to your door. (Doesn't help much for clothing items, though...)
Garth
P.S.: Mad Cow may hurt our beef exports, but it ain't slowing me
down. I'm just hoping prime rib drops to, oh, $1.00 CDN per kilo, and I'll
be firing up the barbie like mad! 8^> (And if you're really paranoid,
you can always try the buffalo meat...)
