There will be a total lunar eclipse tomorrow night visible in most of the
Americas and on Friday in most of Europe and Africa. If I should have any
luck with the weather (not likely according to the local forecasts) I would
like to try my 3x teleconverter with my 500mm mirror lens. What is the
exposure penalty in number of stops? I'm thinking 4 because the view would
effectively be 1/16th the image area of the lens without the converter, or
like stacking 2 2x converters.
There is a very good article on photographing the moon and lunar eclipses at
www.nyip.com for anyone interested.
Thanks!
