Why is it that the BAA is so amazingly paranoid and unflexible?
We've had a fairly high level of security paranoia in the UK for many
years, mainly due to Northern Ireland-related terrorism. Leaving bags
unattended in any railway station or airport can very quickly result in
a major alert! I've seen it happen several times, bemused tourists
returning to their luggage to find them surrounded by police.
Security paranoia can be a good thing but always has silly side effects.
There are no rubbish bins at all on the London Underground, because of
a bomb in a bin many years ago. The BAA hypersensitivity about film is
another example I think.
