The only real standard for encoding of emails is plain-text.
Everything beyond that is vendor-specific/proprietary solutions.
Exactly.
And part of the problem is that "e-mail" programs such as Outlook
Express make it their duty to pollute e-mail with HTML. Not to
mention the "web mail" (Hotmail, Yahoo etc.) which by definition
don't encourage plain text e-mails ;-)
If you use a Mac, good e-mail programs that respect "plain text" are
(among others) Eudora and Mailsmith.
