Those who aren't British or who don't listen to <ahem> "good" music must be
wondering who Gerard Hoffnung was. He is best-known in the US as the
originator of a number of music festivals that burlesqued and satirized
classical music. They included such works as a concerto for vacuum cleaner,
a piano concerto in which the conductor and the soloist can't decide on the
work to be performed, and a really nasty spoof of serial music in which the
take-off is essentially indistinguishable from the thing it is spoofing.
Unfortunately, the LPs chronicalling these concerts have not been reissued
on CD.
