Yea, I've done that a bit, but the dinky LCD screen is nowhere near as nice as
a Polaroid. Plus, the viewing angle is critical, so you cannot really evaluate
exposure with it. The digicam I have, at least (Olympus E-20) isn't really
suitable to the task.
Others may be better. In particular, although I went for an optical SLR, the
so-called "electronic viewfinder" digicams may be much better at "digital
polaroid" use.
What I DO find handy is using the digicam for documentation. Sometimes I have a
difficult set-up for macro or something (envision a Benbo in some strange
position, with a Linhof Super Technika with the bed lowered, and tilt and
shift... :-) and I want some help remembering how I did it. The digicam also
then serves as sort of a data recorder -- at least for date and time as well as
depiction, and possibly for exposure value as well.
