There's a big difference between image-quality and camera-quality!
To get a good image you only need:
1 - a light proof box with a shutter
2 - a way to hold the film flat
3 - a good lens
4 - a way to determine the correct exposure
5 - a way to implement the correct exposure (accurate shutter speed,
accurate aperture)
6 - probably something else that I forgot...
You can certainly get wonderful pictures with an OM-XX and a 50/1.8 and it
meets 1, 2 and 3 above - and also 5 to a pretty good accuracy.
All you get with 'better' cameras is fancy ways to improve 4 (spot,
matrix...) and add durability and reliability so that it stays that way.
