Thanks, Gary. To be honest I hadn't thought much about DOF yet. I'm still
building up courage. In some cases, the "background" IS, or could be the
shot. Some of these folks I would not want to approach for permission, such
as the drunk I saw yesterday standing still, bent over 90 degrees for a
loooong time. I wasn't sure whether he had lost a contact or was preparing
to launch his malt liquor so to speak, and didn't really want to know.
I'm intimidated by the thought of trying to photograph the street people.
It's not that I'm physically afraid, I'm not -- more that I don't want to
intrude or offend anyone. There are multiple other interesting subjects in
that neighborhood such as a great sculpture of Jimmy Hendrix with guitar, for
example. I've seen people walk or bicycle past it and reach out and touch
it. Nobody EVER paints graffiti on it or defaces it. Frequently a single
flower is placed in his hand. It's beloved. So I'm thinking I'll head out
with the "people" lenses and shoot the inanimate, and if I get up the nerve,
include the animate.
I feel like Mr. Bean standing on the high dive.
