I was very very unhappy with my shots, and so my friend said "chuck the
filter and see". Well, just got slides back, sharp! Hmm.. So that old
Tiffen filter really did suck that bad! Serious degradation of the image..
So I'm going to replace it. I also have a Tiffen Polarizer, and I want to
replace that as well. Are there multi-coated polarizers??
Yep. Hoya makes one. I'm sure other brands do, too. BTW, in general I've
always thought (my personal opinion only) that, while Tiffen's special
effects filters are really good (where "degrading the image" in certain
specific ways is the point, such as with their softnet filters), they've
always been pretty crappy when it comes to plain ol' UV, polarizing, etc.
In general, though, I'm in Tom Scales' camp -- unless there's a specific
need for one, don't use a filter. Just more air/glass interfaces to cause
image degradation...
