It probably means they are using a Bayer filter on a 6.1 MP sensor to
synthesize 6.1 MP of full color.
Except for three-pass scanning backs, beam splitter designs, or the Foveon 3x
sensor, no digicam produces "actual" pixels at the size they claim. Instead,
they put RGGB (Bayer) filters over the sensor, then do some signal processing
to synthesize full-color pixels of the same dimensions, when the reality is
they only have 1/4 that number of actual color pixels.
