Tripods are great, but not always an option when you are trying to
"travel light". Also, I seem to find that newbies "jab" at the shutter
button..
Also, 1/500th .... you SHOULDN'T have blurry pics with 1/500th 50/f1.8..

Forgive me for stating the obvious, but have you tried a tripod?
I have very steady hands, and yet I use a tripod for about 900f my shots.
