This is a macro lens. Macro lighting systems are positioned so close to the
subject that such a high focal ratio may be warranted.
It also yields great depth of field, but is unfortunately also
diffraction-limited. So you get fuzzy photos with great depth of field... :-)
This lens is also unusual in that it will focus to infinity on a bellows, and
has a fairly large image circle. I've done some tilt/shift macro work with this
by removing the front standard from the bellows, and holding it with a clamp.
