Dear Zuiks,
After almost a year of absence from the OM-list, I will contribute with a few
postings again. Not so much for discussing the ever actual issues in the life
of OM enthusiasts, but to say good-bye.
It has been quite a year for me. I "cured" my developing zuikoholism, did not
buy anything OM-related since May. I think I have got all lenses, bodies and
accessories to shoot just what I want (Except for the F2.8 80-200, a 21 mm and
the likes :-)...). I even might think about selling out of parts of my
inventory later.
Then in December I got myself a C5050 and am now playing a lot with it. It's a
great little piece and I guess that many of you have already made very nice
experiences with it. I did not forget about my OM's though, and shot a series
of very nice pictures on our second trip to Greenland last summer. I also did a
lot of B/W photography and enjoyed my darkroom very much. There were not many
chances to shoot concerts, but I have done a couple or so.
During autumn I finally got finished my Ph.D.-thesis and I am going to defend
it on March 5. Finally - after more than 5 years. The last years it was more a
pain than real joy. The thing just had to be finished. It was just in the way
of getting further with university teaching and research.
On March 7th I am taking leave from my university job in Denmark and am going
to New Zealand to work there for 3 Months, minus some weeks for vacation. This
will really be a change and a chance to work on an interesting project. In case
there are any New Zealanders on the list: My girlfriend and I am going to stay
in Rotorua and work at Forest Research. I guess there are plenty of chances to
see the great nature, do some hiking and so on.
During the last couple of months I made a serious observation: shops here in
Aalborg, a rather small town in Denmark, have stopped to sell used analogue
photo equipment. The digital market is so hard that no-one dares to buy used
equipment from customers when they purchase a digital camera. The result is
that the shelves with used equipment got removed from the display windows. And
the digital rush let at least one of the really good but oldfashioned
photoshops close its doors for ever. So if I ever should buy some used OM gear
again, it would be on E*ay or so.
The resumé: I am still photographing, but concentrating on taking pictures
rather than collecting gear; I have taken the step towards ditigal; I have lost
interest in discussing OM-related issues; and finally I am looking forward for
a great time in New Zealand.
Best regards,
Bernd
